I have never been much of a trail runner. I would much rather run on the roads where there are a lot of distractions and things to look at and explore. I also like running to a destination, which is very easily done on the roads.
Since I have been in Atlanta, I have found it very hard to find long stretches of sidewalks. I will be on a sidewalk which appears to continue for a long time and then all of a sudden it ends. I realized how spoiled I am to live in Pittsburgh, especially Mt. Lebanon, where there are sidewalks everywhere making it very runner/walker friendly.
Because of the lack of sidewalks, I have really started to love trail running in Atlanta. I also have found that there are so many different trails all over the city. My favorite one is the Suwannee Greenway. It is a little over 4 miles long, which is nice to be able to get a longer run in by going out and back. Also, it is relatively flat, which is a nice change since Atlanta has rolling hills everywhere!
You can park in a few different spots-
George Pierce Park
Town Center Park
Martin Farm Road
McGinnis Ferry Road
Suwanee Creek Park
I really like that there are so many different places to park because even though the trail is only 4 miles long, starting in different locations makes it seem like you are running different routes. I normally start on McGinnis Ferry Road and run towards George Pierce Park.
